2026 World Baseball Classic: Dates, Format, and Host Cities
The World Baseball Classic is a popular international baseball tournament. It takes place from March 5 to 17 this year, and 20 teams from five different continents will compete. Four host cities will host 10 games each. The USA, Japan, and the Dominican Republic are the top contenders. The atmosphere is likely to be filled with excitement, with fans in Tokyo and Miami being very passionate.
Dates and host cities
On March 5, the first Pool C game will feature Chinese Taipei versus Australia. Chinese Taipei is one of the high-ranking world teams, and the game will take place at Tokyo Dome, which is a climate-controlled stadium with artificial turf.
The three other pools will start play on March 6, and pool play continues until March 11. The Pool A games will be held at San Juan’s Hiram Bithorn Stadium, which has been a venue for the tournament three times in the past.

Format for the event

The top four teams from each of the 2023 pools make it automatically into this year’s tournament. This makes up 16 teams, and the four others making up the 20 get through by participating in qualifying tournaments. Chinese Taipei and Nicaragua managed to earn their places in the Taipei Qualifier.
Colombia and Brazil earned their spots in the Tucson Qualifier. Colombia was in the top spot in the second qualifier, while Brazil secured second place by beating Germany. China failed to make the WBC for the first time by coming last in the Tucson Qualifier.

Great Britain had its first experience of playing at this international tournament in 2023 and will play again this year. Great Britain may not be big on baseball, but it has a talented team and top coaches getting it ready for its second appearance.
Various teams, such as Mexico and Puerto Rico, could perhaps have a surprise win this year. Mexico was in third place in 2023. Canada has never made it past the group round before, but with plenty of major league players on the team, it could just be the dark horse this year.
